About Us
We have lived in the village of Farthinghoe for 10 years and have fallen in love with village life. We both like to be involved with the village, which has a great vibe and many social events throughout the year.
Your hosts
Dave is Regional Director for a building management systems company and Pip is P.A. to two directors within the commercial sector of a bank. We have two chocolate labradors, Revel and Rocket, who are always available for cuddles and walks, should you feel so inclined!
We also act as temporary boarders for a local charity, Dogs for Good. We look after dogs whilst they are in training as assistance dogs, taking them to school in the morning and picking them up at night - just like children!
The Village
The village can be traced back to 1086 when the Domesday book refers to it as Ferningeho, although evidence has been found to indicate occupation during prehistoric and Roman times. It has also been referred to as Faringho (12th Century), Farnyngho and Farthingho as late as the 1820s. It was designated as a conservation area in 1978, denoting the village as an area of historic and architectural interest. We have a population of just over 400.
St Michael and All Angels Church was built between the 12th and 15th Centuries. The adjacent Abbey Lodge, which is opposite the annexe, has been dated between the 14th and 15th centuries. The arch in the front garden, built in the 16th century, indicates the former edge of the road.
Magnolia Cottage and Annexe appear on a tithe map of 1841 and it is likely that they pre-date this map by some considerable time.
Revel
